Κωνσταντίνος Βέλτσης: Από τον Ακρωτηριασμό στην Παραολυμπιάδα του Ρίο 2016 - Βοηθήστε στην προετοιμασία του!

Καλησπέρα σας, 

Ονομάζομαι Βέλτσης Κωνσταντίνος και είμαι 25 χρονών και πλέον είμαι αθλητής παραολυμπιάδας, στα 19 μου είχα ένα τροχαίο ατύχημα που μου στοίχισε... έχασα το αριστερό μου πόδι κάτω από το γόνατο. Από την ημέρα του γεγονότος αυτού και μέχρι σήμερα ποτέ δεν το έβαλα κάτω και έκανα τα πάντα να επανέλθω τόσο σωματικά όσο και ψυχολογικά. 

Μετά την εφαρμογή του πρόσθετου μέλους έκανα τα πάντα για να είμαι όσο πιο δραστήριος μπορούσα είτε με γυμναστική σε συμβατικά γυμναστήρια είτε με crossfit, τους τελευταίους μήνες μπήκε μια καινούργια αγάπη στην ζωή μου ...ο στίβος!

An Exarchia eatery where waiters invariably forget some part of an order and a restaurant in Metaxourgeio where no dish ever exceeds 7 euros are among "31 places around the world you should eat at before you die," according to BuzzFeed. The popular news and entertainment website recently asked a group of professional globetrotters to share their favorite culinary destinations around the world.

Στον φούρνο του Καραβά στα Κύθηρα με τα διάσημα λαδοπαξίμαδα βρεθήκαμε απόγευμα Κυριακής που ήταν κλειστός, αλλά ο Παύλος Κορωναίος, ο μικρότερος της οικογένειας Κορωναίου, που διατηρεί τον φούρνο τα τελευταία δέκα χρόνια, τον άνοιξε για μας. Ο Παύλος, ένας χαμογελαστός τύπος, γεμάτος ενέργεια και «χίπστερ» –δύσκολα συναντάς τέτοιους να μένουν μόνιμα σε νησί- μάς ξενάγησε στις εγκαταστάσεις του φούρνου, μας κέρασε τα νόστιμα παξιμάδια του και μας διηγήθηκε το success story της οικογενειακής τους επιχείρησης (που είναι ταυτόχρονα και το προσωπικό του στόρι).

Τρεις φορές την εβδομάδα, δεκάξι άνθρωποι που θα μπορούσαν να είναι παππούδες σου, παίζουν βόλεϊ με θέα το Καλλιμάρμαρο. Τους γνωρίσαμε και τους θαυμάσαμε από κοντά.

Ο νεότερος ακουμπάει τα 70 και ο γηραιότερος πατάει στα 85. Παίζουν βόλεϊ ανεξαρτήτως καιρικών συνθηκών, κάθε Τρίτη, Πέμπτη και Σάββατο από τις οκτώ μέχρι τις δέκα το πρωί. Οι ίδιοι νομίζουν ότι είναι ένα καλό παράδειγμα για τους παππούδες μας, μην υπολογίζοντας ότι είναι ένα αδιανόητο παράδειγμα και για εμάς.

Ο κ. Χρυσανθακόπουλος Παναγιώτης στο Ν.Ι.Μ.Τ.Σ Νευροχειρούργος με χειρούργησε εκτάκτως απο μια δισκοκήλη που ακουμπούσε το ισχιακό νεύρο και υπέφερα. ΕΠΑΓΓΕΛΜΑΤΙΑΣ τον ευχαριστώ πολύ και όλο το νοσηλευτικό προσωπικό του νοσοκομείου ήταν άψογο!

The Academy Awards often had Greek color. Greeks and people of Greek origin have always represented the Greek spirit in cinema’s biggest celebration.

Young Greek pole vaulter Emmanuel Karalis scaling the heights

Teenaged Greek pole vaulter Emmanuel Karalis is determined to scale new heights despite the negative impact of the country's financial crisis on sport.

Fresh from breaking the world youth record, a mark which had stood for 12 years, this month, the 16-year-old is being hailed as a future star of Greek athletics.

With his leap of 5.53 metres at the national indoor championships in Piraeus, Karalis finished third behind Greek champion Kostas Filippidis, eclipsing the 2004 record of 5.51 set by Argentine German Chiaraviglio.

But rather than bask in the glory of his feat, Karalis, who received his first pair of spikes from Filippidis, is not resting on his laurels.

“For a kid my age what I've achieved is huge, but to be honest I feel like now my career is starting; this is the platform I can use to train harder and improve,” he told Reuters.

Their courage, compassion and self-sacrifice has inspired a Nobel Peace Prize nomination.

The fisherman

Thanos Marmarinos has traded fishing time for towing in boats full of desperate migrants, saving scores from the frigid sea.

"One boat was filling with water — there were 18 children in it, including a three-month-old baby. If we hadn't been there, they'd have drowned," the 62-year-old said.

Meet Konstantinos Laskaris, Tesla’s Lead Motor Engineer

The Principal Motor Designer at Tesla Motors, the electric luxury cars maker, is Greek. Meet Konstantinos Laskaris.

Since 2012, Laskaris is lead designer at Tesla Motors in Silicon Valley, California. There, he implements new technologies for the electric cars of the future.

It comes as no surprise that Tesla, the EV trailblazer, spends a considerable amount of resources on internal R&D to develop better parts for EVs, and that its testing facilities and engineering talent are at the forefront of the industry.

“As Tesla’s Principal Motor Designer, Konstantinos Laskaris is responsible for the electromechanical design and optimization of the company’s existing and future traction motors,” wrote Charged EVs, a magazine specializing in electric vehicles, calling Laskaris “Tesla’s motor guru.”
