Πολίτες της Κοζάνης μαζί με το δικό τους ψωμί, μπορούν να πληρώνουν ένα ακόμη για όσους δεν έχουν να αγοράσουν

Ένα ψωμί περιμένει πλέον, σε όλους της φούρνους της Κοζάνης, όσους δεν μπορούν να το αγοράσουν, έπειτα από πρωτοβουλία του Σωματείου Αρτοποιών της πόλης «Προφήτης Ηλίας» και της ΑΡΣΙΣ Κοζάνης.

To «Ψωμί σε αναμονή» είναι μια προσπάθεια ανθρωπιάς κι αλληλεγγύης, που σύμφωνα με τον υπεύθυνο της ΑΡΣΙΣ Κοζάνης, Δημήτρη Λεούδη, βρήκε συμπαραστάτες όλους τους φούρνους της πόλης. "Συμμετέχουν και οι 26 φούρνοι της Κοζάνης, με στόχο να διασφαλίσουμε διακριτικότητα και σεβασμό απέναντι σε ανθρώπους που ζουν στην ανέχεια" δήλωσε ο κ. Λεούδης.

Alec Issigonis: The Greek-British Father of the Mini Cooper (video)

Sir Alexander Arnold Constantine Issigonis, best known as Alec Issigonis, is a car designer of Greek origins and the developer of the groundbreaking Mini Cooper.

He was born in Smyrna on November 18th, 1906. His father Constantine Issigonis and his grandfather were engineers. After the Minor Asia Disaster, his family was forced out of Smyrna and fled to Malta in 1922. After his father's death, he relocated to England together with his mother.

His first car was a Singer with a Weymann coachwork, in which he travelled to Europe with his mother in 1925, dealing with an endless series of mechanical breakdowns. After returning from that trip, Issigonis made the decision to study engineering at Battersea Polytechnic in London.

In 1934, Issigonis went into the motor industry design working for Humber Ltd. in Coventry on the development of an independent suspension. Only two years later, in 1936, Morris Motors hired him thanks to his exceptional skills and know how in the field of chassis development.

Έκθεση Σύγχρονης Ελληνικής Τέχνης στη γκαλερί Belgravia στο Λονδίνο από 3 έως 31 Οκτωβρίου

Τέσσερις Ελληνίδες ζωγράφοι θα εκθέσουν έργα τους, κυρίως παραστατικά, στην BELGRAVIA GALLERY στο Λονδίνο από 3 έως 31 Οκτωβρίου 2016. Τα εγκαίνια της έκθεσης θα γίνουν την Τετάρτη 5 Οκτωβρίου από τις 6:00 – 9:00 μ.μ.

Οι Εύα Αποστολάτου, Κάτια Βαρβάκη, Λήδα Κοντογιαννοπούλου και Βίκη Σταματοπούλου θα εκθέσουν πίνακές τους που περιλαμβάνουν τοπία, θαλασσογραφίες, φιγούρες, νεκρές φύσεις - μερικές με παλιούς χάρτες, έγχρωμες φόρμες και σύμβολα, συνθέσεις και μικτές κατασκευές.

Επιμελητής της έκθεσης είναι ο Γιώργος Σταθόπουλος, ο οποίος έχει διοργανώσει σημαντικές εκθέσεις στην BELGRAVIA GALLERY την τελευταία δεκαετία. Ο κ. Σταθόπουλος, παρουσιάζοντας στο Λονδίνο τις ανερχόμενες και ταλαντούχες ζωγράφους για πρώτη φορά σε ομαδική έκθεση, αναφέρει, «Πιστεύω ότι οι τέσσερις αυτές Ελληνίδες ζωγράφοι προσφέρουν κάτι το διαφορετικό και συναρπαστικό στο φιλότεχνο κοινό του Λονδίνου, που θα παρουσιάσουν μια ενδιαφέρουσα εικόνα της Ελληνικής τέχνης και των εικαστικών τάσεων που υπάρχουν στη σημερινή Ελλάδα.»

Violinist Leonidas Kavakos wins Léonie Sonning Music Prize 2017

Violinist Leonidas Kavakos has been named the winner of the Léonie Sonning Music Prize 2017, worth €100,000.

The award is Denmark’s highest musical honour and has been given annually to an internationally recognised composer, instrumentalist, conductor or singer since 1959.

The prize will be awarded to Kavakos at a special concert on 12 January 2017 – part of a mini-festival in Copenhagen during which the violinist will give a number of performances and masterclasses.

A Million Senses designs holidays for families with autistic children

A good business idea is one that fills a gap in the market. For years, the three partners behind A Million Senses, a brand-new social startup that organizes package holiday deals for families with autistic children, had been keenly aware of one such gap. Having worked in the special education sector, all three had firsthand experience regarding the various difficulties that families wishing to enjoy a vacation together had to face.

“Every year we witnessed the agony across the faces of parents of children with low functioning autism [Editor’s note: The spectrum of autism covers a range of disorders from classic autism to Asperger’s syndrome] when the summer holidays were approaching as it meant treatment and educational facilities would soon close,” AMS founding partner, Angela Menni, told Kathimerini.

Η νεαρή Ντένια Παράσχη, η κοπέλα που είχε συγκινήσει όλη την Ελλάδα με την ιστορία της, έπεστρεψε χθες το βράδυ υγιής στη Ζάκυνθο μετά από την πολύμηνη περιπέτεια με την υγεία της. Η κοπέλα είχε διαγνωστεί με μια σπάνια μορφή καρκίνου κοντά στην καρδιά και είχε απευθύνει έκκληση για βοήθεια. Η ανταπόκριση ήταν τεράστια, η Ντένια μετέβη στην Αμερική και άρχισε αμέσως θεραπείες.

Έχοντας πλέον ολοκληρώσει τη θεραπευτική αγωγή που της συνέστησαν οι γιατροί καθώς και τις απαιτούμενες εξετάσεις που επιβεβαίωσαν την θετική εξέλιξη της υγείας της, βρίσκεται στο πλευρό του συζύγου της, των γονιών, συγγενών και φίλων.

The Peloponnese in Greece is the best place in Europe to visit in 2016, says Lonely Planet

Travel guide publisher Lonely Planet has released its annual list of the best places to visit in Europe, this year opting for a mix of the usual suspects (Venice, the Dordogne) and a scattering of off-the-beaten track places such as the Dutch island of Texel.

Topping the list is the the Peloponnese, a region often overlooked by travellers to Greece, who tend to visit the islands or build a sightseeing trip around Athens' iconic Acropolis.

As a sponsor of the J-1 visa program, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is committed to providing opportunities for international students and emerging professionals to learn about the practices and organizational systems of an American museum. To this end, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, MoMA is accepting applications for three 12-month internships for Greek nationals.
