They had a few relatives already in Greece but essentially they started from scratch, setting up a home. They worked hard, often two different jobs a day. They lived very simply. They saved.
When they could they sent some money and clothes back to family in Albania. They worked. Their children went to Greek school, became Greek. They worked. They sent their children to university. They worked. They work. Rarely even a coffee out…
Twenty years ago she and her husband walked across the border.
And now they offer bags of clothes to the next generation of migrants and refugees.
