Greek film ‘Meteora’ to compete in Berlin

A Greek film will be competing for the Gold or Silver Bear at the 62nd Berlinale, which takes place February 9-12, alongside another nine films from around the world by both seasoned and new directors. “Meteora” by Spiros Stathoulopoulos is the 33-year-old Greek-Colombian director’s second feature after “PVC-1,” an 85-minute single-shot thriller that caused a buzz at Cannes in 2007 and quickly made its way around the international festival circuit.

Ever since “PVC-1,” which tracks a wife and mother rigged up as a human time bomb in the middle of Colombian drug wars, Stathoulopoulos, who lives permanently in Los Angeles, has frequently expressed his desire to work in Greece.

“Meteora,” starring Theo Alexander (of supernatural TV drama “True Blood” fame) and Tamila Koulieva, is a love story set in a monastery in Meteora, the famed monastic community in central Greece, about a relationship between a Greek monk and a Russian nun during the 12th century.
