Canadian Students Paint Thessaloniki School

Students from Toronto, Canada, visited Greece and went to Toumba, which is a quarter of east side Thessaloniki, in the framework of the partnership of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program of the Anatolia College in Thessaloniki with its equivalent of the Upper Canada College (UCC, Toronto, Canada) and the students of the 18th Lyceum.

The project was realized with the participation of 12 students of the Anatolia College, 12 students of the UCC and 15 students form the 18th Lyceum of Toumba. The intensive daily works in the school lasted for two weeks.

The students remodeled the gym by painting and drawing the walls, they repaired and they did maintenance works on the benches and the horizontal bars.

They adorned the outer courtyard, by painting and maintaining the horizontal bars, the basketball and the football court and by painting the walls.

They put flowers in the courtyard, using old tires as flower boxes and they constructed three benches and two tables with chairs with casters. The municipality of Thessaloniki offered plants and soil for the decoration of the school.

Many schools in Greece resemble old barracks, with no adornments, nothing on the walls, and drab, dull colors and are often unkempt and in poor condition, with graffiti-ridden walls on the outside.
