Diomidis
Argous has become the second team in the history of Greek handball to
make it to the final of a European competition, as on Sunday it
qualified for the Challenge Cup final, edging out Maccabi Tel Aviv in
the process. The club, which is based in the historic Peloponnesian town of Argos and is a rising force in the Greek game, had beaten Maccabi 29-26 in Israel, and chalked up a 21-21 draw at home on Sunday. The return leg proved very dramatic as at one point the Israeli team was leading by as many as five goals (18-13).
Diomidis will face Swiss club Wacker Thun in the two-leg final to be contested on May 19/20 and 26/27.
The first Greek side to contest a European final was Filippos Verias in 2003.
