Greek Students Win Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in Math Competition

Greek university students managed to win several distinctions and two gold medals at the 29th South Eastern European Mathematical Olympiad, held April 26-May 2. The Hellenic Mathematical Society points out that “Greek students, members of the Greek Mathematical team, distinguished [themselves] and won, for the first time, two gold medals.” Greek teams have been participating in Balkan and International Mathematical Olympiads for many years.

Alexander Mousatov and Panagiotis Lolas are the two gold medallists. Haris Tsampasidis was a silver medallist, while Panagiotis Dimakis won the bronze medal. Iason Kountouridis was awarded an Honorable Mention for his participation in the Mathematical Olympiad.

Balkan Mathematical Olympiads are of great importance internationally, which is why students from the UK, France and Italy take part in the Olympiads.

The students were accompanied by Professor Theodoros Mpolis of the University of Ioannina and Dimitris Kontokostas, Mathematics Doctorate.

“These results do credit to the Hellenic Mathematical Society’s fight to support Greek education,” stated the Society.
